Looking Back on Our 60th Year

Thank you for making 2014 a year to remember!

As we settle into this new year, we can't help but be thankful for all that 2014 brought us: We celebrated our 60th anniversary, the 30th anniversary of Coastal Cleanup Day and we achieved some incredible accomplishments - thousands of volunteers mobilized, and even more San Diegans educated. Check out exactly what YOU helped us achieve in 2014, including debris removed, in our easy to read infographic

Post-Holidays Recycling

Congrats - You survived the holidays! Now, you may be wondering: Where am I going to put all my gifts and new gadgets? What am I supposed to do with my old electronics? Is it too late to recycle my tree? You're in luck! We're happy to help you find a local recycler for electronics, odd items such as appliances, as well as your holiday tree! Visit www.WasteFreeSD.org to find a local recycler near you. If you have other questions, feel free to call us at 1-877-R1-EARTH.

Local Water Issues in a Nutshell

Over the course of the last few months, you have probably heard language such as, "desalination" or "water reclamation" but what do these words really mean? Conveniently, this fall our Environmental Educator, Monica, participated in the Citizens Water Academy to learn about what is being done to solve water issues impacting our region. She is sharing our new-found knowledge! Everything you need to know about these current solutions is wrapped into one of our latest blogs!

Kickoff 2015 with a CLEAN Start!

Every January, we pledge to make the new year better than the last. This year we encourage you to make it CLEANER than the last by choosing a resolution with the environment in mind. Whether you switch from disposable water bottles to a refillable one or resolve to volunteer at our cleanups, you will be doing our environment a HUGE favor!

If you are looking to volunteer with ILACSD, we highly recommend our Adopt-A-Beach program! It is by far our most popular volunteer program because it is based on your schedule! Visit www.AdoptSD.org to get started.

Volunteer Spotlight: Thank you Zero Waste Volunteers!

Zerowastevolunteers v2

This month, I we'd like to recognize the group of 79 volunteers who participated in our Zero Waste Cleanup in December! This cleanup kicked off our Zero Waste option through our popular volunteer program, Adopt-A-Beach. The volunteers met at Cannon Park in Carlsbad to do a beach cleanup using only reusable supplies! Volunteers brought buckets, work gloves and reusable water bottles and they picked up nearly 200 pounds of litter without creating any additional waste! Did you know that you can schedule your own zero waste cleanup any time through Adopt-A-Beach? We will lend you all the tools you need to make your cleanup as sustainable as possible.
