Site Captains Needed for Creek to Bay

We need some extra muscle at cleanup sites without site captains!

It's not too early to start gearing up for Creek to Bay! Although the event isn't until April 25th, we're currently recruiting site captains to help lead our 100 cleanup sites across San Diego County. We especially need help leading sites in Carlsbad, Tijuana River Valley, Spring Valley and El Cajon areas. Regardless of whether you're a novice or seasoned site captain, we'd love to hear from you!

B.Y.O.Bag Campaign Kicks Off in Encinitas

Although the California statewide single-use plastic bag ban is being put on hold, city ordinances, including Encinitas's ban, are still scheduled to go into effect. In order to help you sort fact from fiction, ILACSD's Director of Development and Marketing, Morgan, wrote an educational FAQs blog, DITCHDISPOSABLE PLASTIC - the bag edition, to answer your questions about this hot topic!

Also, be sure to connect with us on Facebook and Twitter as we announce reusable bag give-away dates, times, and locations!

new board chair - Eric

New Board members - kim

A Changing of the Guard

After five years as Board President, Karen Henry turned over the reins to incoming President, Eric Johnson. Eric has served on the ILACSD Board since 2012. He’s been volunteering with the organization for years, primarily through teambuilding cleanups with his employer, Sony Electronics. Eric brings great energy and enthusiasm to the role of Board President, and his knowledge as Sustainability Manager for Sony’s North America operations is certainly an asset!

A new face to the Board of Directors is Kim Primerano. Kim is currently the Director of Business Development for Gemini Energy Services where she promotes the expansion of clean wind energy across the US. She’s also a former member of the US Marine Corp!

You can learn about all our board members on our website.

Donor Spotlight:
Hervey Family Fund

San Diego Foundation bw

ILACSD is pleased to have the continued support of the Hervey Family Fund, who help to make our community cleanups and outreach events possible. Their fund, administer by The San Diego Foundation, helps hundreds of nonprofits each year. Thanks, Herveys!

Volunteer Spotlight:
Lori Mendez

Volunteer - whale

This month, we would like to recognize Lori Mendez for her longstanding involvement with I Love A Clean San Diego! Lori grew up in Coronado and realized at a young age that pollution travels through our communities and eventually makes its way out to the ocean. She first teamed up with ILACSD years ago as a volunteer for our Christmas tree recycling hotline which helped pave the way for our recycling database,
www.WasteFreeSD.org.

As a member of the San Diego County Bar Association, she has organized many cleanups for the local legal community. Most recently, she rallied a team of volunteers to join us for our binational Kids’ Ocean Day event. Lori and her team of volunteers helped create part of the aerial art that is featured above. We look forward to working with you again soon, Lori!

Do you have a team of colleagues or belong to a social group that is looking to give back to the community? Join us at Creek to Bay on April 25th! Please email Lexi at [email protected] for more information about how to get involved!
